The Red and Purple Modernization (RPM) Phase One Project is the second-largest capital project in CTA history, consisting of a new bypass structure just north of the Belmont station, a complete rebuild of the Lawrence, Argyle, Berwyn and Bryn Mawr stations and the installation of a new signal system between Howard and Belmont.
Phase One was substantially completed in 2025. In 2026, CTA will begin development of 10 blocks under the new 'L' tracks between Lawrence and Ardmore to create public spaces for residents and riders to enjoy.
