As an enhancement to the RPM Phase One Project, CTA removed the century-old embankment structure and walls, creating more than one mile of open space underneath the new tracks in Uptown and Edgewater. Removal of the wall presented a rare and exciting opportunity for these neighborhoods: new, open space for the community and the removal of a physical barrier that had divided the community for a century.
CTA hosted three public meetings in 2024 and 2025 to meet with community members to understand priorities, gather feedback for refinement and present final concept renderings. See the final community-informed concept renderings here and the presentation deck from the last meeting here.
Work is planned to begin in Spring 2026 and end in Fall 2026.
