Reflecting on ancestry, artist Mayumi Lake states: “We come from ancestors who lived in lands filled with beautiful flowers—a cultural richness and pride we bring to this vibrant place called Chicago.” Shaped in floral forms, Argyle-O-Rama honors these ancestral legacies. Spiraling red ribbons trace paths of migration through Argyle station, while lucky cat figures—symbols of health and prosperity—welcome all who enter this thriving community.
Mayumi Lake (b. Osaka) is a Chicago artist and educator who explores time, memory, and the space between the real and imaginary.

Reflecting the vibrant Argyle neighborhood—a lively mosaic of cultures interwoven through cuisine, art, music, and color—this Byzantine glass and hand-painted mosaic embodies joyful abundance and harmony. Each flower form serves as a symbolic tribute to the unique individuals who pass through the Argyle Station on their journeys to destinations beyond.
A graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Lynn Basa is a Chicago artist whose practice includes public art, painting and ceramic sculpture.
