Reliable. Easy. Fast.
Jump can make your life easier, giving you more time to spend on the things you love.
Jump is a new CTA bus service designed to provide a faster, more convenient travel experience. CTA customers living along the Jeffery Boulevard corridor will be among the first Chicagoans to try out a new kind of bus service. Jump will feature a number of new features both on the bus and along a two-mile stretch of Jeffery Boulevard. The CTA is working in partnership with the Chicago Department of Transportation, which recently broke ground to begin construction on Jump service improvements.
Features
A number of new features make Jump a more attractive travel option.
- Dedicated Bus Lanes: Jump corridors will be striped and signed for dedicated bus lanes between 67th & 83rd during congested periods (northbound from 7-9 AM and southbound from 4-6 PM).
- Fewer Stops: Average ½-mile Jump station spacing will increase travel speeds. The #15 will continue all local stops, including shared stops at all Jump stations.
- Transit Signal Priority: Traffic signals from 73rd St. to 84th St. will be upgraded to test an early or extended green light, so the bus can get through the intersection more quickly.
- Queue Jumps: Bypass lanes will allow a Jump bus to advance through an intersection with a unique traffic signal to move buses ahead of general traffic. A queue jump will be piloted at Anthony Ave. and Jeffery Blvd.
- High-Quality Station: Most Jump stations will include lighted shelters with Bus Tracker displays, high-visibility kiosks, and ADA-accessible sidewalk ramps. Select locations will also feature bike racks, benches, trash cans, and landscape planters.
- Vehicle Enhancements: Buses will have unique graphics identifying Jump service for easy identification and will be equipped with on-board Bus Tracker displays so customers can anticipate arrival times at key destinations.
Jump Service Launch
The Jeffery Jump bus will be wrapped with a distinct style and logo, and the destination sign will be labeled the #J14 Jeffery Jump.
Travelling from 103rd to downtown, Jump will first pass the residential area showcase station at 100th/Paxton, which will include unique sidewalk and crosswalk surfaces, and wider curbs to shorten crossing distances. Jump will then trigger a queue jump signal at Anthony/Jeffery, which will help the bus move through the viaduct ahead of other traffic with an advanced green light. Starting at 84th Street, Jump will enter a signal priority zone, which will make traveling through intersections more seamless.
At 83rd Street, Jump will begin two miles of bus-only lanes, which means the bus will travel faster with no more weaving in and out of traffic. At 71st/Jeffery, Jump will reach the commercial area showcase station, which will include unique sidewalk and crosswalk surfaces, and a larger shelter for expanded weather protection.
Shortly after the dedicated lane ends at 67th Street, Jump will enter Lake Shore Drive, for a non-stop ride to downtown destinations.
